2017 Poster for the Common Ground Country Fair

2017 Common Ground Country Fair Poster Unveiled

The 2017 Common Ground Country Fair poster was unveiled during the Maine Agricultural Trades Show this week. The poster features three Columbian Wyandotte chickens roosting. This uncommon variety is well suited to Maine’s climate and is raised for both meat and egg production. Local artist Dwight Gagnon of Benton created the design, which is a delightful and fitting image for the 41st annual Common Ground Country Fair, September 22, 23 and 24.
The poster is now available online through our MOFGA Store.

Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
Journal's retraction of rat feeding paper is a travesty of science and looks like a bow to industry
Scientists for Social and Environmental Responsibility - 11/29/2013.
Elsevier's journal Food and Chemical Toxicology has retracted the paper by Prof. Gilles-Eric Séralini's group which found severe toxic effects (including liver congestions and necrosis and kidney nephropathies), increased tumor rates and higher mortality in rats fed Monsanto's genetically modified NK603 maize and/or the associated herbicide Roundup. The arguments of the journal's editor for the retraction, however, violate not only the criteria for retraction to which the journal itself subscribes, but any standards of good science.
China rejects 60,000 tons of genetically modified U.S. corn
UPI - 11/29/2013.
China rejected 60,000 tons of U.S. corn because the crops had been genetically modified in violation of regulations, Beijing's quality watchdog said Friday.
Monsanto confronts devilish public image problem
Politico - 11/29/2013.
By Jenny Hopkinson - Monsanto is the agriculture world’s prince of darkness, spreading its demonic genetically modified seeds on fields all over the earth. Or at least that’s the case if you believe the likes of HBO talk-show host Bill Maher, the hazmat suit-wearing activists in Occupy Monsanto or any of a growing number of biotechnology haters.
Response by Prof GE Seralini and colleagues to A. Wallace Hayes, editor of Food and Chemical Toxicology
GM Watch - 11/28/2013.
By Prof. G. E. Seralini et al. - We, authors of the paper published in FCT more than one year ago on the effects of Roundup and a Roundup-tolerant GMO (Séralini et al., 2012), and having answered to critics in the same journal (Séralini et al., 2013), do not accept as scientifically sound the debate on the fact that these papers are inconclusive because of the rat strain or the number of rats used. We maintain our conclusions. We already published some answers to the same critics in your Journal, which have not been answered (Séralini et al., 2013).
