October 9-12 - Four-day Timber Frame Workshop at Hidden Valley Nature Center
In Jefferson, cosponsored by MOFGA. Learn the basics of post and beam construction, starting with standing trees and ending with a finished small building. Some scholarships available. Covers all aspects of raising, humanely slaughtering, and processing pigs. Information.
October 18 - Great Maine Apple Day
Noon to 4 p.m., rain or shine, at MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, Unity. Celebrate the history, flavor and tradition of Maine apples while honoring the importance of a diversified, perennial agriculture. Admission is $2 for MOFGA members and $4 for nonmembers; kids get in free!
October 19 - "Women Owning Woodlands" workshop at Hidden Valley Nature Center
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jefferson. Cosponsored by MOFGA. Learn how to take on the responsibilities for forest management and planning and how to build relationships with other women managers and forestry professionals. November 6-8 - MOFGA's 2015 Farmer to Farmer Conference
Friday through Sunday, Point Lookout Resort, Northport, Maine. MOFGA's annual conference for farmers provides a great opportunity to talk about what works and what doesn't while learning new ideas from university faculty, fellow farmers and others. Information.
November 19-22 - Low Impact Forestry Workshops
MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, Unity. Learn and practice sustainable woodlot management and logging with animals and with low-impact machinery. For beginners and experienced. More information.
November 20-21 - Chainsaw and Forestry Safety Course
MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center, Unity. Level I is a two-day course covering many aspects of chainsaw use, including basics of saw mechanics, operation, maintenance, safety, and safe felling techniques. Level II is for the saw operators with experience who want to practice and improve their technique. More information.
December 8 - QuickBooks Training presented by Farm Credit East
