Maine obesity rate doubles over decade
Bangor Daily News - 8/5/2010.
Bangor: Mainers gained weight along with the nation, as its self-reported obesity rate rose from 15-20 percent in 2000 to nearly 30 percent as of 2009, according to a report released Tuesday by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nine states now have obesity rates of 30 percent or greater, compared with no states in 2000 and three in 2005.

Grist - 8/4/2010.

Natural foodie: A few events worth noting on the August calendar
Portland Press Herald - 8/4/2010.
By Avery Yale Kamila – With August here, it can be tough to find time between barbecues, family reunions, garden weeding and endless house guests to take advantage of our state's fabulous food happenings. Most nights, just getting dinner on the table becomes a triumph of multitasking. But if you can squeeze a few extra hours out of your busy schedule, here are a handful of events you're sure to enjoy.
Blueberry pie
Bangor Daily News - 8/4/2010.
By Sandy Oliver – Nearly all of us surely have at least one blueberry pie recipe that we like to use so perhaps another is as welcome as one more car on Route 1 through Ellsworth. This recipe is a variation on one I found in the “Joy of Cooking” that we like a great deal at our house. I added a few ideas from my favorite blueberry crisp recipe, and of course, for a difference you could put a crisp topping on your pie instead of a pastry crust.
