Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
Millions march against GM crops
The Guardian [UK] - 5/25/2013.
Organisers celebrate huge global turnout and say they will continue until Monsanto and other GM manufacturers listen.
Is There Grass In That Milk?
The Ecologist - 5/24/2013.
By Lorna Howarth - The Ecologist office is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within a United Nations Biosphere Reserve. Hartland peninsular is dotted with steep, wooded valleys where bluebells, early purple orchids and woodpeckers abound. But something is missing from this bucolic scene. Eliminating Hunger, One 3-D-Printed Meal at a Time
Mother Jones - 5/24/2013.
By Tom Philpott - The scourge of lingering hunger amid rising obesity is notoriously complex and difficult to solve. It raises knotty questions about our shockingly unequal global economic system, about European and US farm policy, about the rise of global agrichemical/GMO firms, about global commodity markets and land grabs. But what if we could just ignore all of that unpleasantness and hack our way to answers with novel technologies?
Connecticut considers labeling GMO foods
Portland Press Herald - 5/24/2013.
AP - Connecticut lawmakers are considering dueling bills that mandate special labels on food that contains genetically modified ingredients. The House early Friday passed legislation by a vote of 114-7 that would require food to be labeled as genetically engineered but only after five other states with an aggregate population of 25 million people enact an equivalent law. Two of the states must be either New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts or Rhode Island.
