Meet Dalziel Lewis of MOFGA-certified organic Dig Deep Farm in South China, Maine. A graduate of MOFGA's Journeyperson Program, Lewis produces vine fruits, vegetables, edible flowers, annual cut flowers, vegetable seedlings and some herbs, which she sells through a CSA, at farmers' cooperatives and farmers' markets (including Augusta, China, and the Belfast winter market). Merger Mania in the Food System Continues

By Tyler Shannon - Giant food companies are once again trying to consume their competition as Foodopoly 2013 continues. On Monday, the number one food distribution company in the United States, Sysco, announced it was buying its only major competitor, US Foods, for $3.5 billion plus all of US Foods’ debt, bringing the value of the deal to $8.2 billion.
Organic candy-bar maker relocating to Rockland

By Stephen Betts - A company that produces organic fruit-and-nut candy bars will make Rockland its home. Bixby & Co. LLC, maker of Bixby Bars, announced Monday it would be relocating to O’Hara Corp. property on Tillson Avenue that was formerly an ice-making facility as of March 1.

The WhiteWave Foods Company, a leading consumer packaged food and beverage company in North America and Europe, today announced that it has agreed to acquire Earthbound Farm, one of the country's leading organic food brands, from its existing shareholders led by Kainos Capital and founders Drew & Myra Goodman, for approximately $600 million in cash.

The end result was the destruction of dozens of independently owned, regional dairy businesses and thousands of jobs. After they were done pillaging they then jettisoned the WhiteWave division earlier this year.
