2017 Poster for the Common Ground Country Fair

2017 Common Ground Country Fair Poster!

The 2017 Common Ground Country Fair poster was unveiled during the Maine Agricultural Trades Show in January. The poster features three Columbian Wyandotte chickens roosting. This uncommon variety is well suited to Maine's climate and is raised for both meat and egg production. Local artist Dwight Gagnon of Benton created the design, which is a delightful and fitting image for the 41st annual Common Ground Country Fair, September 22, 23 and 24.
The poster is now available online through our MOFGA Store.

Chemical dispersants being used in Gulf clean-up are potentially toxic
Grist - 5/6/2010.
By Tom Philpott – We finally know the main two dispersants that BP and the U.S. government are using to treat the ongoing Gulf spill. Both, by their maker's own admission, have the "potential to bioconcentrate," and both have "moderate toxicity to early life stages of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks," according to a study by Exxon, the company that originally developed them.
Two Ogunquit chefs are Northeast’s best
Portland Press Herald - 5/4/2010.
By Dennis Hoey – Two more award-winning chefs have brought national attention to Maine's culinary industry. Clark Frasier and Mark Gaier, chef/owners of Arrows Restaurant in Ogunquit, were named Best Chefs in the Northeast on Monday night by the James Beard Foundation.
US farmers cope with Roundup-resistant weeds
The New York Times - 5/4/2010.
By William Neuman and Andrew Pollack – Dyersburg, Tenn: For 15 years, Eddie Anderson, a farmer, has been a strict adherent of no-till agriculture, an environmentally friendly technique that all but eliminates plowing to curb erosion and the harmful runoff of fertilizers and pesticides. But not this year.
Bountiful New England shrimp harvest closing 3 weeks early
Bangor Daily News - 5/4/2010.
By Clarke Canfield – Portland: The combination of a healthy shrimp population, favorable weather and stable markets have made for solid shrimp fishing in New England – so solid, in fact, that the season is closing early because fishermen have caught so many of the small, sweet crustaceans. So far they’ve caught nearly 11 million pounds.
