Meet Arla Casselman and John Grote of Ewing Fruit Company in Warren. Arla and John farm approximately 30 acres of MOFGA-certified organic wild blueberries. They offer fresh and frozen blueberries directly from the farm. Blueberries are being pollinated now and will be available in August. Visit their Facebook page to learn more and to place an order. Arla is also a participant in MOFGA's journeyperson program as she works toward expanding their business to include flowers and floral design.

Chemical dispersants being used in Gulf clean-up are potentially toxic

By Tom Philpott – We finally know the main two dispersants that BP and the U.S. government are using to treat the ongoing Gulf spill. Both, by their maker's own admission, have the "potential to bioconcentrate," and both have "moderate toxicity to early life stages of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks," according to a study by Exxon, the company that originally developed them.

By Clarke Canfield – Portland: The combination of a healthy shrimp population, favorable weather and stable markets have made for solid shrimp fishing in New England – so solid, in fact, that the season is closing early because fishermen have caught so many of the small, sweet crustaceans. So far they’ve caught nearly 11 million pounds.
