Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
Peggy Connell obituary
Kennebec Journal - 3/6/2012.
Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Connell died last week at home. She was held tenderly in the arms of her four children and passed peacefully to the chorus of "I love you, I love you, I love you."
Scientists find fungus that kills Lyme disease-carrying ticks
Bangor Daily News - 3/5/2012.
By Vinti Singh (Connecticut Post) – Bridgeport, Conn.: Local scientists have found a way to control the ticks responsible for passing Lyme disease on to humans. A new natural pesticide, derived from a strain of fungus that is deadly to the black-legged tick could help keep tick populations under control. Unlike some synthetic pesticides that can be dangerous for more than just ticks, the fungus does not harm honeybees, earthworms or other beneficial insects.
Making local food our future: a community response to the global food system
Energy Bulletin - 3/5/2012.
By Katharine Darling – Attempts to find solutions to the problems we face in the current climate of economic uncertainty, energy insecurity and environmental concerns can seem overwhelming. One of the biggest challenges we face is that of food security – leading food producers have warned that unless the UK urgently develops a food strategy we will be left relying on imported food and without a sustainable future for British food production.

Alternet - 3/3/2012.
By Marion Nestle – Earlier this week I received a 3-page, single-spaced letter – plus 4 pages of charts and figures – from Andrew Briscoe III, the President and CEO of the Sugar Association. I opened it with some trepidation because the last letter I got from the Sugar Association threatened to sue me.
