Organic and Sustainable Agriculture News
These seafood pies cut others in on the profits
Portland Press Herald - 1/5/2011.
By Meredith Goad – Portland: Sam Hayward is a James Beard Award-winning chef who is known for his commitment to local foods that express the terroir of Maine. Some chefs might try to capitalize on that kind of notoriety, but Hayward has always just focused on his food. He hasn't been interested in using his reputation to manufacture new food products. Two Portlanders chronicle their year of eating locally
Portland Press Herald - 1/5/2011.
By Avery Yale Kamila – In foodie culture, eating local is all the rage. But few go as far as Luke Fuller and Cassi Madison. The recently engaged couple reached their one-year anniversary this week of eating a diet made up almost exclusively of Maine food.

Bangor Daily News - 1/5/2011.
By Sandy Oliver – Lots of people still wrinkle up their nose when they hear Brussels sprouts mentioned. It’s too bad really, and only because most sprout haters never had one that had been through a couple of good freezes.
World food prices enter 'danger territory' to reach record high
The Guardian [UK] - 1/5/2011.
By Jill Treanor – Soaring prices of sugar, grain and oilseed drove world food prices to a record in December, surpassing the levels of 2008 when the cost of food sparked riots around the world, and prompting warnings of prices being in "danger territory". An index compiled monthly by the United Nations surpassed its previous monthly high – June 2008 – in December to reach the highest level since records began in 1990.
