|Study: E. Coli Cattle Vaccination Could Prevent 83 Percent of Human Cases|
Food Safety News - 9/23/2013. By Lydia Zuraw - A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggests that using E. coli vaccines on cattle could prevent up to 83 percent of human infections. By combining veterinary, human and molecular data, the authors created a model of the pathogen’s transmission from cattle to humans and used it to estimate the human impact of vaccinating cattle.

Daily Kos - 9/23/2013. This last weekend was Common Ground, the annual fair put on by the Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association (MOFGA). Their whole fairground is dedicated to stuff grown or made in Maine, so ~ in addition to the educational exhibits and serious stuff ~ there's lots and lots to look at: pottery, woodworking, baskets, produce, other foods, fiber.... Ah, the fiber ;-) My favorite part ~ but there's lots of organic wholesome goodness (warning ~ photo heavy) after the Great Orange Doodle...

USAgNet - 9/23/2013. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the USDA will soon publish a notice in the Federal Register asking the public to comment on how agricultural coexistence in the United States can be strengthened.
|Organic food promoted across Madison and Dane County|
The Badger Herald (Madison) - 9/23/2013. As part of its Organic Agriculture Lands initiative, Dane County will lease 24 acres of county park land to an organic grower, according to a Dane County statement. The county also has a community garden at another park, and hopes to open up another fresh food market in Madison, the statement said.
