Mary Margaret and Eugene Ripley

Know Your Organic Producers!

Meet Mary Margaret and Gene Ripley of Ripley Organic Farm in Dover-Foxcroft. The Ripleys raise more than 50 kinds of vegetables, herbs, cut flowers, highbush blueberries and other perennial landscape plants. They market through their CSA with pickups at the farm and in Bangor; at the Orono Farmers' Market on Saturdays; and to Crown of Maine Organic Cooperative and other wholesale accounts. "We are proud to have our farm inspected on a yearly basis by MOFGA to ensure our compliance with the organic standards," say the Ripleys. Follow the farm on Facebook and on their website.

By Will Allen – Taxpayers are demanding that government enforce existing regulations and create more stringent rules to limit the excess and greed in banking, insurance, housing, and on Wall Street. But, in the rush to regulate, we can't forget to oversee industrial agriculture.
When depends on what
Maine Sunday Telegram - 5/10/2009.
By Tom Atwell – A sign of the boom in vegetable gardening is that whenever I write a column about vegetables, I get calls telling me that I omitted important details.
