MOFGA's Farm Training Project Workshops
Weekly, June through September
at farm locations throughout Maine
Free

Designed to augment the on-farm learning of the farm apprenticeship program, MOFGA's Farm Training Project (FTP) workshops follow an informal format, usually beginning with a farm tour followed by a presentation on the topic of the day. Participants are invited to stay for a potluck supper – bring a dish or something fresh from the farm to share (please bring your own place setting as well). All events are held rain or shine and are free and open to the public. For more information or directions to any of the workshops, call 568-6018, email education@mofga.org, or check the FTP website.

In 2008, they bought a flock of 12 chickens for their half-acre parcel in Camden.

Portland Press Herald - 4/7/2010.
By Avery Yale Kamila – Whether you'd like to learn new mulching techniques to better hedge against Maine's cold winters or you'd like to find out how to save seeds in order to take a practical and political stand against corporate control of the food system, you'll want to attend the Local & Sustainable Food Conference on Saturday and Sunday in Lewiston.
Heirloom apple crops increase
The New York Times - 4/7/2010.
By Florence Fabricant – Spring does not bring to mind apples, but with the start of the growing season a nonprofit group called Renewing America’s Food Traditions (RAFT), which works with Slow Food, has declared this the year of the heirloom apple. It has published a booklet with charts, maps and studies about the loss of apple varieties and what is being done about it.
