Our yearly Spring Growth Conference is a daylong event that digs deeply into topics that impact farmers, whether a specific crop, technique or management practice. The 2016 conference will focus on the basis of farming: soils.

By Kimberley Mok - Growers in colder climates often utilize various approaches to extend the growing season or to give their crops a boost, whether it's coldframes, hoop houses or greenhouses. A more affordable and effective alternative to glass greenhouses is the walipini (an Aymara Indian word for a "place of warmth"), also known as an underground or pit greenhouse.

The farm bill portion of the Senate Democratic bill to delay the automatic budget cuts known as sequestration has surfaced an interesting debate over numbers. To replace the automatic across the board cuts, Reid proposed to cut the deficit by $110 billion, half through closing tax loopholes and half through spending cuts. The spending cuts would be shared 50-50 between the farm bill and the Pentagon.
