The Maine School Garden Network (MSGN) believes school gardens can be a rich source of experiential learning and can enhance all areas of the curriculum. MSGN also believes in the value of teaching children to grow, cook and enjoy eating healthful food. MSGN’s vision is to see a successful garden at every Maine school and its mission is to encourage, support, educate and connect those who wish to garden with youth. In 2009-2010, MSGN developed marketing materials and a new website, www.msgn.org with a grant from Maine Ag in the Classroom.
The MSGN advisory board is comprised of individuals from the private sector and from statewide organizations including Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association who is also the fiscal sponsor, Maine Ag in the Classroom, Maine Farm to School Workgroup, Healthy Maine Partnerships, Soil and Water Conservation Districts and University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
