MOFGA's Seasonal Cooking Class with Chef Frank Giglio

Cost: $30, including lunch (and recipes to take home)


Cooking meals from scratch using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients is a great way to connect with the local farming community. Fresh, organic foods taste better, are better for the environment, and the best for your body. Come share an afternoon in the MOFGA kitchen with Thorndike resident and chef Frank Giglio. He will share simple recipes that will highlight MOFGA certified farms, local fisherman and foragers. Learn to utilize wild herbs and other ingredients to naturally cleanse the body and prepare you for the warmer weather ahead. Limit: 15 people. Details and registration.

NYC: protesters come out against Monsanto

By Eleanor West – If you happened to be walking around Lower Manhattan this morning, you might have noticed the anti-Monsanto chants echoing from Foley Square. In a protesting trifecta, Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Big Food, and Food Democracy Now joined forces to support family farmers as the first phase of their federal court case against food industry giant Monsanto. The crowd of around 200 people included farmers from as far away as Maine as well as local food activists and chefs.

By Scott Edwards – Whenever I hear the name Monsanto I can’t help but think about one of the greatest environmental crimes in the history of the United States. Back in 1935 Monsanto bought out a small chemical company located in Anniston, Alabama, a struggling town of about 22,000 poor and working class people. Monsanto spent the next 36 years using Anniston as its manufacturing headquarters for PCBs, an industrial coolant. Tragically, the company was also recklessly poisoning the local community, environment and its own workers with hundreds of tons of this highly toxic material.
