Best Food, 2006
The 2006 Fair hosted a number of new and returning food vendors, and awards were well distributed among veterans and rookies.
Once again, food judges were hard pressed to eat everything offered and needed some last minute sample runs to better inform the discussion. We agreed that judges really need two days of tasting to do our vendors justice.
Award recipients were:
- Best Beverage: Steve's Smoothies
- That's Some Different! (a tasty, if unfamiliar, dish): Sunweaver's Blood Drink
- Best 100% Maine: Androscoggin Apple's Snowballs
- Tradition! (Maine cuisine at its best): Orr's Island Chowder
- Best Bite for the Buck: Hi Bombay
- That's Entertainment: Bombay Mahal
- First Impression (New to the Fair): Wise Acre's Maple
- Taste, Not Trash: County Fare's Soup served in a Sweet Pepper
- Where's the Beef? (Vegetarian): Watershed Community School's Three-way Quesadilla
- Where's the Cheese? (Vegan): Steve's French Fries
- Better Than Chocolate: Maple's Organics' Maple Gelato
- Best in Show: Tuva Bakery
As in the past two years, judges for the 2007 Fair will be chosen by a random drawing of interested site volunteers and Fair Planning Team members. Virtue does have its rewards.
This year's intrepid eaters were:
Becca Hamilton – YEZ and Kitchen volunteer
Eva Murray – Electrical Gopher
Danya Klie – Sign Distribution Coordinator
Doug Hodum – Setup Volunteer
Greg Hallee – AV Coordinator
